House Contents
As soon as you leave your residential premises, the belongings that you have with you are only insured if they are specified under the All Risks section of your policy. You can elect to specify an amount for Clothing and Personal Effects and use this as a blanket cover but it will only cover clothing and personal effects (i.e.; not electronic equipment) and you will only be able to claim up to a limited amount per item.
Our Personal Insurance Policy now automatically gives you accidental damage cover. We would recommend that you extend this cover by taking Mechanical / Electronic Breakdown cover for gate and pool motors, and also to cover you in the event of a power surge damaging your electronic equipment.
Jewellery under House Contents is limited to R10, 000 unless it is kept in a locked and wall-mounted safe, in which case it is covered for one-third of your House Contents sum insured. When you leave your property, your jewellery and anything else you have with you is only covered if it is specified on your policy.
House Contents Insurance covers your possessions while they are on your residential premises, or while they are temporarily at another residence, for example, when you are on holiday. You must ensure that your sum insured for House Contents on your policy includes ALL of your possessions for the full replacement value. If not, then you risk being underinsured in the event of a claim. If you are underinsured your claim will only be paid out proportionately depending on the extent to which you are underinsured.
Kingdom Life Financiers offer you the most affordable household cover which consists of:
Cover for loss or damage to household goods and personal possessions
All specified items must be mentioned
Liability cover for your domestic worker, should something happen to her while on duty
Tenants’ liability for all the tenants living on the premises to have cover should anything happen to them
Loss and damage caused by: fire lightning, explosion, storms, bursting or overflowing of geysers, pipe leakage and breakages, break-in or theft
Portable Possessions
All Risk insurance for portable possessions is a vital part of your personal insurance.
The minute we leave our residence anything that we have with us may not be covered by our house contents policy so speak to us about your portable possessions so that we can ensure that you are correctly covered
Buildings
Buildings Insurance for residential properties covers you against the common risk such as fire and storm, but as with most insurance there are optional extensions that need to be properly considered otherwise you are at risk of not being properly insured in the event of a claim. We will assist you in determining the correct insurance structure for your residential property by asking the right questions at the time that you take out the cover, not when you claim.
Vehicle Insurance
If you own a car, insuring it is a necessity. Car accidents can be very expensive and, if you are unfortunate enough to have one, you will be glad your insurance is there to help cover the costs.
Car theft is an unhappy fact of life as well and, should your pride and joy ever be stolen, you will be grateful your insurance will ensure you can replace it.
We offer a flexible range of car insurance options, whether your vehicle is financed through a financial institution or not. You can take advantage of the hassle-free service provided by our insurance planners about creating a tailor-made solution to meet your unique needs.
Whether an accident is your fault or not, car insurance provides peace of mind that the damage to your car and, if appropriate, the other vehicles involved in the accident, will be repaired.
Tips for Maximising Your Car and Home Cover
- Losing a computer or file server can be very inconvenient (and frustrating). You can buy lock-up devices specifically designed to keep your PCs and servers secure.
- If your possessions are lost, you’ll want to replace them with items of equal value. To do this, make sure that the sum insured for your household content is sufficient.
- Computers, especially laptops, are always at risk of theft. Make sure you’ve insured them properly. Keep laptops out of sight when you aren’t working on them.
- Be safety conscious at all times. Lock your home and offices when they’re empty and ensure that your alarm is working. Test armed response services regularly.
- Car radios are high-risk items. And they can be expensive to replace. Insure them separately so that they can be replaced as close to their original value as possible.
- If you make any modifications or add any extras to your vehicle, let us know.
- Keep any valuables in your car out of sight. Put them under the seat or in the boot.
- Replacing treasured household items can be a tough task. Take photographs and keep receipts. This will help you prove ownership if you need to claim for their loss.
- Jewellery that is valued over R2 000, 00 should be re-valued every two years.
